Discovered in the South of France, this dish was unsigned, but Sandie Roy-Saul was captivated by its elegance and modernity. She had it reproduced identically, in the purest tradition of French cabinetmaking, by a young cabinetmaker trained at the École Boulle, based in Eure-et-Loir. He rediscovered the traditional gouge carving technique for the spheres bordering this piece. Made from tulipwood, a French wood prized for its delicate texture, the bowl is then stained with several successive coats to reveal various shades of brown.
